A crown or bridge helps you to maintain the function and shape of your own teeth or molars as much as possible.
How does it work?
The dentist will first grind part of the tooth or choose to make enough space for a crown or bridge to be placed on it. Then an impression is made which is sent to the dental laboratory. The dentist also makes a bite registration. This is to determine how the lower jaw and on top fit together.
If it concerns a crown or bridge that is in the front of your mouth, you will find a suitable color together with the dentist. Sometimes a temporary crown is placed to protect the ground tooth or molar during the entire process. At the last appointment, the crown or bridge is applied with fast-hardening cement.
How long is the process?
Several sessions are required to place a crown or bridge. A crown or bridge will last at least 10 years because it is made of durable materials. It is important that you practice good oral hygiene.
What does it cost?
The rates in oral care are determined nationally by the Dutch Healthcare Authority. The costs for a crown depend on how much grip the tooth or molar has as well as the type and material of the crown itself. Depending on this, the costs vary between € 400 and € 600 per crown.
The costs for a bridge depend on the type of material and type of bridge and the number of teeth that need to be replaced.
