Do you have sensitive teeth or molars when drinking cold or hot drinks or do you have severe pain complaints? You may need a root canal treatment.
Severe pain complaints?
Teeth and molars consist of a crown and 1 or more roots containing nerve fibers and small blood vessels. This tissue can become inflamed due to tooth decay, a leaking filling or a hard blow to the tooth. This tissue must be removed or the inflammation can spread to the jawbone and other teeth can become loose or even fall out.
How does it work?
The dentist will first take X-rays. Then your tooth or molar will be opened to remove the inflamed tissue. The entire channel is cleaned and rinsed with disinfectant rinsing fluid. The channels are filled and the dentist closes the tooth or reseats it with a filling.
How long is the process?
A root canal treatment takes place in 1 to 2 sessions depending on the number of channels and the complexity.
What does it cost?
The rates in oral care are determined nationally by the Dutch Healthcare Authority. On average, a root canal treatment costs between € 400 to € 850, depending on the number of canals and the complexity.
